If you have followed me on social media for a while, you will know that my wanderlust has really taken hold in the last few months. I want to see the world. I want to explore, experience cultures, taste food, watch sunsets. I want to make memories with my family. We would love to take some time off to go travelling when our girls are a bit older, but until then I have drawn up a bucket list of the places I would love to visit within the next 10 years. This might be slightly optimistic but we’ll give it a good go! In no particular order…
Santorini – We are going here in October!! I am so excited to visit this amazing island and put the first tick on our list. I am forever seeing photos on Instagram of the amazing views, gorgeous white walls and the blue sea and just had to see it for myself. 121 days to go…
California – My husband and I did a road trip of California for our honeymoon and it was incredible. We have both agreed that we want to take the children back to show them some of the amazingly diverse places we visited and relive some of our memories through them. Plus there’s Disneyland there so, you know, it has to be done…
South Africa – As a child my parents took us to Kenya multiple times. Looking back I really wish I had appreciated this more at the time as the experiences we had were just incredible. I have watched a few travel vlogs on South Africa recently and it looks like the perfect destination – cities, beaches and safaris all rolled into one.
Thailand – Is it really possible to travel the world and not visit Thailand?! Even after having heard a few mixed reviews it is still somewhere that is very high up on my list, with the advantage of being very affordable too! The difficult bit being there are far too many islands to choose from I wouldn’t know where to start!
Bali – Bali just looks like pure paradise. I follow a few travel bloggers who call Bali home, or who spend a large amount of their travelling time on the island. The downside? The flight time from the UK. Definitely one to wait for until the girls are just slightly older, or leave them at home….
Japan – Japan is somewhere that my husband mentioned a few months ago, and from the research I have done, and talking to friends who have experienced it, it has made its way onto my list. We would have to go in the Spring though…I have this thing about flowers and have you seen the famous Japanese cherry blossom?! Plus (you know what’s coming next don’t you?), Tokyo Disneyland, so, you know, it has to be done…
Amalfi Coast – Italy has always been a favourite of mine, the culture, the weather, the FOOD! The Amalfi coast is one that has always been on my list but my lust to visit there has increased tenfold recently. The colourful buildings against the bright blue sea is my idea of heaven. It wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Capri too, of course.
Singapore – Last, but by no means least, Singapore. This is a very recent addition as it wasn’t somewhere that I thought of as child friendly, until Travel Mad Mum showed that it definitely is. There is so much to do for families, whilst being part of a completely different culture to our own. One to tie in with a trip to Bali maybe? Oooo….
European City Breaks
Copenhagen – If I was to have a few days spare then this is the first place we would be heading. From research I have done the flights are relatively cheap and there are some gorgeous Airbnb’s around too! I actually can’t wait to visit this amazing city. I’ve heard rumours that the food is pretty delicious too, and, I don’t know if you have noticed but, I have this thing about food…
Barcelona – The mix of city and beach in Barcelona really appeals to me. It would be silly not to include it on this list, to be honest, as there is so much culture and history to be experienced here.
Rome – The same as with Barcelona, this one seems like a bit of a given really. I can’t believe that we haven’t been here already really! I know my husband would love the history of Rome, and I would love the gelato! I know this is definitely one that will get ticked off the list.
French Riviera – I’m not really sure what attracts me to this area of France? The glamour? The sunshine? The beautiful coastline? Who knows?! I just know that I want to step foot in Monaco, Nice, Cannes… If only to feel rich just for a few days!
Amsterdam – Windmills, tulips, canals, vintage bikes – its like the Instagram dream!! I promise I don’t want to go just because of the photo opportunities…
Venice – Venice was the very first place my then boyfriend, now husband, visited together. We both fell in love with Venezia, it just has a magical feel and is so unique. I know the girls would love it too, and I would love for them to share our love of it with us. Plus they love going on boats which is pretty lucky as there is lots of that involved!
I’d love to know if you have any recommendations for these destinations, or if you want to try and persuade me to add any others onto the list!
